The Best Time of Year for Senior Photos (and Why)

I get asked this question each year. The school sends out to the new senior parents all the dead lines and everyone freaks out. Yes, we have to get those pictures in before the senior yearbook deadline but not everyone has or does those pages. However, here are some helpful tips of when is the best time to take those senior pictures. I love them all. Anytime I can get that camera in my hand Im ready.

Fall: A Season of Colors

One of the most popular times for senior photos is during the fall. The changing leaves create a vibrant backdrop, and the cooler temperatures allow for comfortable outdoor sessions. Plus, the golden hour sunlight during this time of year is perfect for capturing stunning images.

Spring: A Fresh Start

Spring is another excellent option for senior photos. As flowers bloom and nature comes back to life, the scenery is bright and colorful. The mild weather also provides a comfortable setting for outdoor shoots, and the lively ambiance of spring can reflect the excitement of graduation.

Summer: Fun in the Sun

Summer offers long days and plenty of sunshine, making it a great time for senior pictures. This season allows for a variety of locations, from beaches to open fields. However, it's essential to keep in mind that it can get hot, so timing the shoot for early morning or late afternoon is ideal. Let's be real! We have days in 100 degrees, if you sweat a lot early morning or late afternoon is your best time!

Winter: A Unique Landscape

Winter can also be a creative season for senior photos. We hardly ever get snow-covered landscape that it provides a unique and serene setting, but when we do its so much fun. If students want to capture a more dramatic and artistic look, winter photos can be incredibly beautiful, especially during the golden hour.

Timing and Planning

No matter the season, it’s essential to plan ahead. Schedule your photography session well in advance, as I typically book up quickly, especially during peak times like fall and spring. Consider the school calendar, weather conditions, and personal preferences when deciding the best time for your senior photos.

Personal Style and Preferences

Ultimately, the best time for senior photos is when you feel most comfortable and confident. If you love the crisp air of autumn or the warmth of summer sun, choose a season that resonates with your personal style. Investing time in selecting the ideal season can help create images that truly represent you. LOOK into your school deadlines, most yearbook sponsors are not forgiving on missed dates. Most in our local area is September - February.

Here are several of my favorite Senior photos from this year.
